Horizons and Landscapes
2025 - 2026
In Horizons and Landscapes, Julie Hrnčířová works with analogue film that was meant to be thrown away: overexposed and underexposed negatives, rolls found at flea markets, and the cut-off ends of her own films. She transforms these fragments into new abstract images, imaginary landscapes that exist nowhere. Each image comes from a physical accident that cannot happen twice.
The series questions the idea of a “failed” photograph and explores the gap between intention and accident. At a time when images can be generated endlessly by artificial intelligence, it turns to the physical, imperfect nature of film: a material that can be touched, damaged, cut and transformed.
